Bare skin, burning guitars, and lots of toilet paper – the creativity of metalheads seems to have not been damaged by several weeks of self-isolation.
“There was so much wonderfully moronic stuff, great! I think some people were thankful to be able to let it all hang out in the current bizarre situation”,
explains singer Björn Gooßes.
The idea for the #StayHome project
A spontaneous idea in times of self-isolation led to the call for community action at the beginning of April. Those who wanted to participate could go off to the 80s Flashdance hit “Maniac”, which was covered by THE VERY END, and film themselves. In only two weeks numerous submissions landed in the band’s mailbox.
The German Essen-based agency CHUNDERKSEN was responsible for the realization of the video.
The agency’s co-owner Jan Derksen has already worked in 2011 as Production Manager for The Very End’s music short film for “A Hole In The Sun“.
Motorjesus, Bonded and many more surprising guest appearances
Friends of the band and scene stars like Waldemar Sorytcha, producer of the album Mercy & Misery, on which the song “Maniac” was released as a bonus track, are also part of the band. Besides working for The Very End, the Grip Inc. guitarist and mastermind is also responsible for productions of bands like Tiamat, Lacuna Coil, or Samael. Pete, Black Messiah and Tsatthoggua guitarist and former bandmate of guitarist René Bogdanski at Ninnghizhidda is also featured in the new video. Christoph Birx from Motorjesus, Bonded singer Ingo Bajonczak, bassist Marc Hauschild, as well as bandmembers of The Idiots, Destroy Them, Greydon Fields or old companions like Volker Rummel (Harkon) or Hell-G (Eat My Body) and many more, are also in the video.
“We just wanted to do something together in this distance-strained time. Since the work on our new album is delayed by the Corona crisis anyway, we can kill the time in a quite cool way”,
adds guitarist René Bogdanski.

The Very End tanzen mit Fans in neuem #CoronaManiac Musikvideo
Unter dem Hashtag #CoronaManiac riefen The Very End ihre Fans dazu auf, selbstgedrehte Clips für das neue Musikvideo der Band einzusenden. Das fertige Video gibt es ab sofort online auf YouTube zu sehen.
Nackte Haut, brennende Gitarren und ordentlich Klopapier – die Kreativität der Metal-Fans scheint durch mehrere Wochen Selbstisolation keinen Schaden genommen zu haben.
„Da war so viel wunderbar debiler Kram dabei, großartig! Ich glaube, manch einer war wirklich dankbar, in der aktuell so bizarren Lage mal kurz die Sau rauslassen zu können“,
erklärt Sänger Björn Gooßes.
Die Idee zur #StayHome-Aktion
Eine spontane Idee in Zeiten der Selbstisolation führte Anfang April zum Aufruf der Community-Aktion. Wer teilnehmen wollte, konnte zu dem von The Very End gecoverten 80er Jahre Flashdance-Hit „Maniac“ abgehen und sich dabei filmen. In nur zwei Wochen landeten zahlreiche Einsendungen im Postfach der Band.
Die Umsetzung des Videos übernahm die Essener Agentur CHUNDERKSEN. Mitinhaber Jan Derksen hat bereits 2011 als Production Manager bei The Very Ends Musikkurzfilm zu „A Hole In The Sun“ mitgewirkt.

Mit von der Partie sind auch befreundete Bands und Szenegrößen wie Waldemar Sorytcha, Produzent des Albums Mercy & Misery, auf dem der Song “Maniac“ als Bonustrack erschienen ist. Neben der Arbeit für The Very End ist der Grip Inc. Gitarrist und Mastermind auch für Produktionen von Bands wie Tiamat, Lacuna Coil oder Samael verantwortlich. Auch Pete, Black-Messiah– und Tsatthoggua-Gitarrist und ehemaliger Bandkollege von Gitarrist René Bogdanski bei Ninnghizhidda ist im neuen Video am Start. Außerdem dabei sind Christoph Birx von Motorjesus, Bonded-Sänger Ingo Bajonczak, -Bassist Marc Hauschild, sowie Mitglieder von The Idiots, Destroy Them, Greydon Fields, sowie langjährige Wegbegleiter wie Volker Rummel (Harkon) oder Hell-G (Eat My Body) und viele weitere.
“Wir wollten in dieser Distanz-belasteten Zeit einfach etwas Gemeinsames auf die Beine stellen. Da sich die Arbeiten an unserem neuen Album durch die Coronakrise ohnehin etwas verzögert, können wir die Zeit so doch ganz cool überbrücken“,
ergänzt René.
